Free jab program expected to reduce RSV hospitalisations by “up to 90%”

The government is spending $174.5 million on a ”world-leading” program, which will see pregnant people and newborn babies access free protection against respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), ahead of the 2025 flu season. According to the Immunisation Foundation of Australia, RSV is the number one cause of hospitalisation for Australian babies. Founder and director of the Immunisation Foundation Catherine Hughes said the program is a monumental milestone for preventative health.
